Green

Sabbath rain
to my skin
Sabbath must
to my nose
Sabbath savor
to my tongue
Sabbath dove
to my ears
Sabbath green
to my eyes
Sabbath solitude
to my soul

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose trust is the Lord.
For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream
And will not fear when the heat comes;
But its leaves will be green,
And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7, 8

I enjoyed looking at these pictures. There's a clear difference between a raw picture, taken ever so cleverly, and genuine art. The swamp beckoned for further exploration.

Barry, can you expound on your observation about the difference b/t photography and art? I've been trying to figure out what you meant all day!

Certainly! My pictures are photography, and yours are art :)
Seriously, I have no clear idea myself. It's probably all subjective. I consider all the pictures quite good from a technical perspective, but to me, pictures 3,4,5,7, and 9 are more artistic than the others (although I'm second guessing myself as I scroll back to check)

Really awesome pictures!

I'm curious: when you wrote
"Sabbath must to my nose"

Were you talking about smelling grape juice?

B - Wow, thanks! I guess I'd never considered my pictures as art before. Unfortunately, there won't be any more artistic wanderings in the near future as my camera is down for repairs at the moment. :(

J - haha, I was wondering if anyone was going to question my use of that word. I was using its third meaning which is, "mustiness, dampness, or mold." The swamp was all of the above, in a fresh sort of way! However, I could have used it to mean the former as I think we might have had grape juice at lunch :)

I'm so glad you chose such a beautiful color to enjoy the Sabbath with :D

Also, this made me remember something you might appreciate (Bekah too). In Ethiopia, I asked one of the student nurses what her name meant because it sounded so pretty (her name was Leysa). At first she had trouble explaining it to me, but eventually I found out that it means green, but not just like the color green; it means the kind of green you have just after the rains when all the world is full of life.

Kristin, that IS really cool! How is it pronounced? Is it like Lisa or more like Laysa? I think it's so awesome when people are named because of the meaning. Thanks for sharing your story! :):)
